ROCK!
Our Mission
In
a world where musical education has been limited to classical technique
and theory, Music Centre Canada’s EXTREME ROCK! Is the outlet
for
those
who may be more inspired by Metallica than Mozart. The first
of
its kind in the nation, its purpose is to help young musicians realize
the dream of being rock stars in a stimulating and creative educational
environment. We aspire to give every child the confidence in
their abilities and themselves that they need to rock, as well as the
knowledge and experience they need to continue pursuing music as
professionals for years to come.
Our four-week summer program is
designed to be fun. It’s a diet of jamming with
band mates,
learning the ropes of music business, practicing fun tunes for the big
Band Warz finale, some individual coaching with professional musicians
and we throw in a little rock history and theory for a well-balanced
experience. We group each band together based on individual
skill
levels and learning pace to ensure that each band can reach their full
musical potential. Rehearsals are intense, hands-on sessions
and
are dedicated to hard work and hard play.
The grand finale of
each EXTREME ROCK! Session is a performance including all of the newly
formed rock bands in a real venue using professional equipment in front
of as many people as possible. If that’s not a rock
concert, what
is? The rockers show off their newfound confidence and skill
and
let their inner rock star attitudes shine. It also represents
the
opportunity to cut a professionally produced demo in our Music Centre
Canada Recording Studio to the band that rocks the hardest.
The
success of the program isn’t dependent on what the
instructors
teach;
it’s based on teamwork, peer support and how our rockers
choose
to
apply the experience we supply to them. Guiding rockers with
individual passions for music to a place where they can create
something together can give them a sense of joint accomplishment
greater than they could ever imagine. It helps to set a
personal
standard of excellence for any other venture they may pursue later in
life; individually or with others.
…But all we’re
really doing is bringing kids together who share a common goal: to
rock.

long is the program?
Usually around 6, although we
have
taught younger,
as long as your child is patient and attentive we can teach them.
